Harbor Covenant Church began in 1980 when a group from First Covenant Church in Tacoma joined to "plant" a new church in Gig Harbor. We were organized in 1981 as a mission congregation of the North Pacific Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
Our first meeting place was in the Haven of Rest Cemetery chapel. The chapel was lovely but the site naturally lent itself to a number of jokes among the group, such as "people are dying to get in here" and "our attendance statistics do not include individuals present in caskets or small boxes." When the congregation expanded to 140 in a year and a half, we
changed our location to Gig Harbor High School before
moving to our current 10 acre site in 1985.
The original group of 41 charter members has expanded to a
present worshiping congregation of approximately 500, with
multi-faceted ministries to children, youth, and adults of the
community.
