In November 2007, the Congregation adopted a new site plan for the facilities at Harbor Covenant Church. Included in the facilities was a Phase I with a new fellowship/foyer area to accommodate more fellowship activities for attenders and to provide a more attractive space to welcome non-churchgoers. Following eight months of Facilities Committee meetings and many peripheral discussions, the vision has expanded to incorporate the importance of an effective front door and also to become a launch pad for more effective local ministry.
A Town Hall Meeting was held in January 2010, giving the Congregation an opportunity to view the slightly revised facilities plan. The key elements of the plan include a larger area for fellowship and dining, a new more formal foyer/entry area which also connects the sanctuary with the offices/education building, a new larger kitchen, several auxiliary storage areas, and the remodel of the sanctuary integrating the overflow areas along with improving lighting and acoustics. A special Congregational meeting was held on February 21, 2010, during which the Congregation voted on two separate proposals to approve the conceptual plans for the fellowship/foyer infill area and on the reconstruction of the existing sanctuary area. (Copies of the floor and site plan are attached)
Also as part of the February 21, 2010, Congregational meeting, it was approved to conduct a capital fundraising campaign and to hire the Enrichment Group, with Marc Rieke as the consultant, to aide the congregation in the campaign. During the March 2010 Council meeting the Capital Facilities Campaign team was appointed along with a re-upping of the Facilities Committee members as a new Building Committee.
Starting in April 2010, the Congregation was introduced to the Capital Fundraising Campaign now known as the Growing in Faith to Serve Campaign. Events will be held starting the 3rd week of April and go through the Spring to an All Church Banquet the 2nd weekend of June with a Commitment Service Sunday June 13, 2010. In faithful anticipation, the Building Committee will be staged to move forward with final architectural and design drawings, solicitation of construction bids and probable award in the late fall or early winter. It would be anticipated that construction will start in the Spring of 2011.
