MISSIONS
Three of our foreign missionary families, the Toctaquizas (Ecuador), Cochranes (India), and Quanruds (England) will be in Gig Harbor at the same time. Let’s have a picnic and take advantage of the opportunity to hang out with these dedicated and exciting people!
Following church on Sunday, August 17, plan to car pool to Ken & Gail Gohrick's lakeside home in Lakebay to spend a day of fun, food and sharing stories with our missionaries. In addition, Tim and Mabel Koop who will be leaving for Tanzania in September and Laura Jordan who just returned from Rwanda plan to join our celebration. Laura is making plans to return to Africa in the future for a long term commitment.
The afternoon program will include gathering in Gohricks’ gymnasium for a brief report from each missionary on what God has done and is doing in their lives, as they answer His call.
This is a potluck event, which translates to Yum. We request that those with last names beginning with A – H bring a main dish; I - Q bring salad; and R – Z bring dessert.
Contact the church office if you plan to join the fun and if you want to car pool.
If you have questions, contact Ginny Porterfield.
Habitat for Humanity currently has two sites under construction, one in Tacoma and another on Key Peninsula. Both sites could use your help!
The program most in need right now is our Building on Faith project that runs from September 2 - 28. A national program, Building on Faith brings together churches from all over the county to work side-by-side building a home for a family in need. This year we are building with the Howard Family. Latasha is a single mom with five children. One of her biggest challenges is her own health -- a chronic asthma problem, aggravated by the mold and other toxic elements in the air of her current living situation. Latasha has spent so much time in the hospital that some of her best friends are doctors and nurses! She is looking forward to having a clean home in which to raise her children. The children look forward to actual bedrooms with real beds and dressers and a kitchen big enough that they can all eat together as a family.
The Saturday build days are filled, but mid-week volunteers are still needed! The schedule is as follows:
Be a part of the Howards’ dream for a better future!
Call Cassandra Jarles at the Habitat office, 253-627-5626 if you can help.
